Vulnerability isn't weakness. It's the Fire that connects Us.

Vulnerability isn't weakness. It's the Fire that connects Us.

Every episode I’ve recorded is an act of vulnerability. Sharing my marriage struggles. My messy motherhood. My miscarriage. My cultural disconnect. My unhinged moments.

All of it.

And I don’t know how it’ll be received. I don’t know if people will judge me, use it against me, think I’m “too much.” But I show up anyway. Because vulnerability is the fire that connects us. It’s not weakness. It’s the courage to be seen. And if you’ve been hiding, pretending, performing—I get it. The armor feels safer. But connection lives on the other side of the risk. And you’re worth the risk.

What Vulnerability Is (And Is not):

Vulnerability IS:

Showing up authentically even when the outcome is uncertain. Saying “I don’t know” or “I’m struggling.” Sharing your truth without knowing how it’ll be received. Letting people see you—really see you.

Vulnerability IS NOT:

Oversharing without boundaries. Trauma-dumping on strangers. Performing pain for sympathy. Weakness or lack of strength.

Brené Brown’s definition: “Vulnerability is uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure.” It’s the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, empathy, creativity. You can’t selectively numb, if you numb vulnerability, you numb everything.

Why Vulnerability Matters:

Connection requires it. You can’t connect with a mask on. People connect with your humanity, not your highlight reel. Vulnerability equals “me too” moments.

It models courage. Your kids watch you. When you’re vulnerable, you teach them it’s safe to be real. When you hide, you teach them to pretend.

It breaks isolation. When you share your struggle, others realize they’re not alone. Your vulnerability gives others permission.

It’s the path to growth. You can’t heal what you won’t acknowledge. Vulnerability is the doorway to transformation.

Why It’s So Hard:

The risk: What if they judge me? What if they use it against me? What if I’m “too much”? What if they reject me?

The armor we wear instead: Perfectionism (“if I’m flawless, I’m safe”). People-pleasing (“if I’m agreeable, I’m safe”). Numbing (“if I don’t feel, I can’t be hurt”). Cynicism (“if I don’t care, I can’t be disappointed”). The cost of the armor: You’re safe. But you’re also alone. Connection requires risk.

How to Practice Vulnerability (With Boundaries):

Start small and safe. Don’t share your deepest wound with someone who hasn’t earned trust. Vulnerability doesn’t equal open season on your pain. Share with people who’ve proven they can hold it.

Ask yourself: Why am I sharing this? To connect? To heal? To help someone else? Or to get sympathy, manipulate, avoid accountability? Intention matters.

Own your story. “This is MY experience” not “this is THE truth.” Vulnerability without blame. Don’t perform it. Social media vulnerability can be powerful OR performative. Check your motive: connection or validation? Expect discomfort. Vulnerability feels vulnerable (that’s the point). The discomfort is proof you’re doing it.

What Vulnerability Looks Like in Real Life:

In motherhood: “I don’t know what I’m doing, and I’m scared I’m messing this up.” “I needed space from my kid today and I feel guilty.”

In marriage: “I’m hurting and I need you to hear me.” “I don’t know how to fix this but I’m willing to try.”

In friendship: “I’m struggling and I need support.” “I messed up and I’m sorry.”

In your work: Sharing your story (this podcast). Admitting when you’re wrong. Asking for help.

In this episode: Naming what vulnerability is. Acknowledging it’s terrifying. Doing it anyway.

The Takeaway:

Vulnerability is courage, not weakness. Showing up as you are takes guts. Connection requires it. You can’t bond over perfection. You bond over shared humanity. There has to be boundaries. Vulnerability with safe people. Not everyone deserves access. It’s the fire that connects us. Your truth-telling gives others permission to be real too.

Your Turn:

What’s one vulnerable truth you’ve been afraid to share? You don’t have to share it here. But naming it to yourself is the first step. Send me a message if you’re ready. Or just know you’re not alone in hiding.
